Mixing together these two aesthetics of cute pastels with medical and deathly symbols to produce a duality in this Japanese Harajuku inspired design. Some days you might just need a little of this to help you on your way.

What is Yami Kawaii clothing?

This design aesthetic comes from Japan as a counter to the traditional Yume Kawaii or more retro Fairy Kei aesthetic. Our design contains a pattern of multicoloured pills, black crosses and colourful (yet slightly disturbing) eyeballs against a pastel pink background. Its aim is to be cute and dark simultaneously. This is what is called the Yami Kawaii aesthetic.

What is Menhera Kei fashion?

The word Menhera means mental illness in Japan. When it comes to fashion, this is a tool to help support those who might be struggling. Adding in some darker (Yami kawaii) aspects to the design, which might reference mental illness, can sometimes provide the wearer some comfort as a means of self-expression, rather than keeping everything bottled up and hidden.

If you are struggling with mental illness, please remember that there is support which is free and confidential. In the UK you can call the Samaritans on 116123 (24/7) or text SHOUT to 85258. In the USA you can called the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline on 1-800-273-8255.
