Memphis Bauhaus Collection

What is Memphis Bauhaus?

You might think there is a contradiction between Bauhaus and 80s Memphis style, after all one is a Modernist design concept, and the other is Postmodern. These two design movements contrasted each other completely. Whilst Bauhaus Modernism was based around functionalism, 80s Memphis style threw all that away and (initially at least) created the most unfunctional furniture designs you ever did see, although they were fun, played with style and made out of relatively cheap products.

Bauhaus Memphis is still a fusion of these two competing movements. Actually, Memphis Design does indeed have its roots in Bauhaus, just as it does in Art Deco. It uses geometric formats and flat colors. It just ain't Modernist.
